TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The death toll from two powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24 has risen to 2,645, with 12,666 people injured, according to Venezuela’s National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez.

Rodriguez, who also heads the temporary shelter command center, said in an update posted on Telegram on Friday, July 3, 2026, as reported by Xinhua and cited by Antara, that rescue and relief operations are still ongoing across affected regions.

He added that 6,462 people have been rescued since the disaster, while 86,117 families have received humanitarian assistance.

The earthquakes also caused widespread structural damage, with 885 buildings reported damaged and 189 others collapsed. Authorities have established 59 temporary shelters to accommodate displaced residents.

Rodriguez said Venezuela has experienced 890 aftershocks since the initial twin earthquakes, further complicating rescue and recovery efforts.

He noted that a total of 3,305 international rescue personnel, along with 29,567 domestic emergency responders, remain deployed nationwide to support ongoing operations and provide assistance to affected communities.

The government continues to coordinate emergency relief, shelter management, and infrastructure assessments as the country grapples with one of its deadliest natural disasters in recent years.
