TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Former Indonesian deputy foreign minister Dino Patti Djalal expressed regret that President Prabowo Subianto did not explicitly mention the two-state solution and Palestinian independence in his remarks before U.S. President Donald Trump at the Board of Peace Conference in Washington, D.C.
According to Dino, several countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Turkey, Pakistan, and Morocco, referred to the two-state solution and Palestinian statehood during the high-level meeting.
"I also took note and regretted that President Prabowo's speech at the Board of Peace Conference did not mention the Two-State Solution or Palestinian Statehood," Dino said in a video uploaded to his Instagram account @dinopattidjalal on Saturday, February 21, 2026. He allowed the media to quote his remarks.
Dino said the two-state solution has long been Indonesia’s guiding principle on the Palestinian issue. He argued that Trump needed to hear Indonesia’s position directly from Prabowo.
He added that calls to uphold the two-state solution were also conveyed by Islamic organizations and foreign policy groups during meetings with the president at the State Palace prior to the conference.
"The message is that Indonesia's membership in the Board of Peace should be dedicated to achieving Palestinian independence," said Dino, who chairs and founded the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia.
However, Dino said he did not want to draw premature conclusions, noting that Prabowo may have omitted explicit references to the two-state solution due to limited speaking time.
He stressed that support for a two-state solution and Palestinian independence must remain central in statements delivered by the president and Indonesia’s foreign minister in all forums concerning Palestine, particularly within the Board of Peace.
"We do not want the Board of Peace to be misused as a platform to silence Palestinian aspirations, as the possibility of that is quite high," he said.
In his address at the conference, Prabowo focused on broader themes of peace and the vision outlined in the Board of Peace Charter. He also highlighted a ceasefire in Gaza and Indonesia’s plan to deploy 8,000 troops to the territory.
Prabowo only explicitly referred to the two-state solution during a press conference after his speech, where he said conditions in the Gaza Strip had improved compared with previous years and that residents were receiving adequate basic necessities, reiterating that Indonesia views a two-state solution as the only viable long-term resolution.
