TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian national team is grouped in Group F of the 2027 Asian Cup after the AFC official draw results were announced in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday, May 9, 2026, local time. Indonesia will compete with Japan, Qatar, and Thailand in the group stage of the most prestigious football tournament in Asia.
As a member of pot four, Indonesia faces a tough challenge from the early stage. However, the Garuda squad is expected to replicate their achievement in the 2023 Asian Cup when they successfully reached the round of 16.
The team under the guidance of John Herdman is scheduled to face Japan in the opening match of Group F on January 11, 2027. Five days later, Indonesia will meet Qatar before closing the group stage against Thailand on January 20, 2027.
Japan and Qatar are predicted to be the toughest opponents in this group. Japan is one of the main powers in Asian football, while Qatar comes with the status of the defending champions of the Asian Cup. Thailand is also not an easy opponent as they are one of Indonesia's traditional rivals in the Southeast Asian region.
Meanwhile, the host Saudi Arabia is in Group A alongside Kuwait, Oman, and Palestine.
Group B is occupied by Uzbekistan, Bahrain, North Korea, and Jordan. Group C consists of Iran, Syria, Kyrgyzstan, and China.
In Group D, Australia will compete with Tajikistan, Iraq, and Singapore. While Group E will bring together South Korea, the United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, and either Lebanon or Yemen.
