Indonesia Urges Citizens to Postpone Middle East Travel

8 hours ago 5

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is urging Indonesian citizens to postpone travel to the Middle East due to ongoing security dynamics. Yvonne Mewengkang, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, advised the public to remain cautious, especially those planning to travel to or transit through affected countries.

Yvonne mentioned that the government has activated communication with Indonesian citizens across various countries in the region. "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also urges Indonesian citizens planning to travel through or transit in the region to consider and postpone their trips," said Yvonne on Sunday, March 1, 2026.

An explosion rocked Tehran, the capital of Iran, on Saturday, February 28, 2026, following an attack described by U.S. officials to Al Jazeera as a joint operation with Israel. On the same day, explosions also occurred in Qatar, Kuwait, Abu Dhabi, and Manama after Iran launched missiles toward Israel.

She stated that through the Directorate of Indonesian Citizen Protection and Indonesian Representatives in the Middle East, the Ministry has been coordinating intensively with citizen communities in their respective working areas. Indonesian diplomatic missions were requested to ensure the welfare of citizens and provide regular updates on the development of the local security situation.

In addition, all Indonesian citizens are advised to remain calm and vigilant. They are asked to follow instructions from local authorities and maintain communication with the nearest Indonesian representatives. This advice also applies to Indonesians facing travel difficulties due to the situation in the region, including flight schedule changes or access closures.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with Indonesian representatives, is continuously assessing real conditions in the field, according to Yvonne. The government will adjust its handling in line with the development of the security situation and the necessity for the protection of Indonesian citizens in each country.
