TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto joked about gaining new supporters when speaking in front of American business leaders. Prabowo made this joke during a business summit at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C.
Prabowo initially talked about his tendency to speak at length when on the podium. He mentioned that such a habit is a negative side of politicians and political leaders.
Prabowo then tried to conclude his speech. "But, I think it's your fault for giving me the podium," Prabowo joked, on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, local time.
The head of state then said that an American political leader had once advised him never to stop campaigning. According to Prabowo, the American politician delivered the message shortly after he was elected president.
"Because an American political leader once taught me, he said, 'Prabowo, never stop campaigning.' So, even though I was just elected - and he said this a few weeks after I was elected - he advised, 'Never stop campaigning,'" Prabowo imitated the politician's message.
Prabowo then joked that he could gain additional support through the forum. After all, he had already campaigned and explained Indonesia's economic conditions. "So, here I am. Who knows, I might get three or four additional supporters from this meeting," said Prabowo.
