TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto kicked off his visit to Washington D.C., on Wednesday, February 18th local time, by meeting with the United States Chamber of Commerce (USCC). Also present at the meeting were the US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC) and the US-Indonesia Society (USINDO).
The meeting was held ahead of the signing of the reciprocal trade agreement, which was also a key agenda item in Prabowo's visit to Washington, D.C.
President Prabowo was accompanied by several ministers. They were Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto; Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia; Minister of Investment and Downstream Development/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) and CEO of Danantara Rosan Perkasa Roeslani; Danantara CIO Pandu Sjahrir; Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya; and Indonesian Ambassador to the United States Dwisuryo Indroyono Soesilo.
Meanwhile, representatives from the business community included Anindya Novyan Bakrie, Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Simon Aloysius Mantiri, President Director of Pertamina, Tony Wenas, President Director of PT Freeport Indonesia, and Richard C. Adkerson, Chairman of the Board of Freeport-McMoRan Inc.
Kadin Chairman Anindya Bakrie stated that the meeting provided an opportunity for the business communities of both countries to take advantage of the reciprocal agreement that will be signed jointly by President Prabowo and US President Donald Trump Jr.
"We know that trade between the two countries is good, already at US$45 billion. The goal (of the agreement on reciprocal trade) is to create a more balanced environment," Anindya said, as quoted by Antara, Thursday, February 19, 2026.
He believes the agreement will provide many opportunities for Indonesian exporters, especially in the footwear, textile, garment, and electronics sectors. The same applies to American businesses in the cotton, wheat, and soybean sectors.
"But that's not all. We can think about what investments we can bring to Indonesia, as investment will be crucial for increasing employment and capitalizing on the current momentum," Anindya said.
He added that the American business communities President Prabowo met with are partners of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin). "All of them are partners with Kadin. In May 2025, we signed a cooperation document with the US Chamber (USCC), US-ASEAN, and we also have a long-standing relationship with USINDO," Anindya said.
Furthermore, President Prabowo and President Trump are scheduled to sign a reciprocal agreement, which also includes provisions on tariffs, during their bilateral meeting in Washington, DC.
