TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Chairperson of Real Estate Indonesia (REI) Joko Suranto stated that if realized, the 3 million houses program will support the success of the free nutritious meal program (MBG). According to him, MBG will be effective when children live in healthy homes. "Imagine, good meals at school. But at home, not getting proper conditions, vomiting, all the nutrition is lost," said Joko during a public hearing with the DPR Commission V at the Parliament Building in Senayan, on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.
Joko said that the 3 million houses program is crucial. REI also expressed its support for Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto's proposed program. Moreover, according to Joko, the housing program can create jobs, estimated at around 13 to 19 million. In addition, it can reduce poverty by 7.8 percent.
Not only that, Joko mentioned that the housing sector can drive hundreds of supporting industries. The million houses program can trigger the growth of building material factories, such as brick, in various regions. He believes that this growth will be in line with the opening of new job opportunities. "Property can be a tool for economic growth," said Joko. "REI fully supports President Prabowo's program and the roadmap from the Housing Task Force."
Joko also mentioned that the housing program needs to be realized because the need for housing among the population will increase. Currently, the urban population which reaches 56 percent is predicted to grow to 66 percent by 2035. "We will face a major problem if there is no design on how to provide affordable decent housing from now on," he said.
Previously, the Minister of Housing and Settlements Maruarar Sirait expressed optimism that the 3 million houses program per year will be realized. The program initiated by President Prabowo Subianto is a program for 1 million houses in urban areas, 1 million houses in rural areas, and 1 million houses in coastal areas.
The program includes the construction and renovation of uninhabitable houses. "If it is not achieved, I am ready to follow President Prabowo's command as my leader. I want to be reshuffled, that is also his right," said Ara in a joint meeting with the DPR Commission V at the Parliament Building in Senayan on Monday, May 19, 2025. "I accept anything."
