TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The US Embassy Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, declared closure on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, after a drone attack. The embassy also canceled all routine and emergency appointments for American citizens.

“The U.S. Mission to Saudi Arabia is closed on Tuesday, March 3. All routine and emergency American Citizen Services appointments are canceled,” the embassy announced on the X social media platform, as quoted by Anadolu.

The embassy added that the shelter-in-place advisory for the Jeddah, Riyadh, and Dhahran areas still applies. American citizens in Saudi Arabia are recommended to stay in their respective safe places.

The embassy also urged people to avoid the embassy complex until further notice due to the recent attack. In addition, it stated that it is still restricting non-essential travel to military installations in the region.

American citizens are also encouraged to review the latest security alert updates, reconsider potentially disrupted travel plans, and maintain personal safety plans.

The US Embassy in the Saudi Arabian capital was targeted in a drone attack that caused limited fires and minor material damage without any casualties, according to the Saudi Ministry of Defense.

This incident occurred amid escalating tensions after a joint US and Israeli military attack on Iran launched on Saturday. The airstrike reportedly killed a number of senior Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

In response, Tehran launched drone and missile attacks targeting Israel and Gulf countries hosting US military assets.
