TEMPO.CO, Jakarta The world's largest exhibition for computer and video games, Gamescom, officially kicked off in Cologne on Wednesday, August 26.

According to ANTARA, the exhibition opened to business visitors and media representatives on Wednesday, and the five-day event was attended by more than 1,600 exhibitors from 67 countries and regions, with more than 70 percent of them being international companies.

This is the first time that the entire exhibition hall has been booked by exhibitors at Gamescom 2026.

Felix Falk, managing director of the German Games Industry Association, said that the number of exhibitors is at a record high, and the scale of the exhibition zone for independent game developers, dedicated to showcasing the creativity and products of small teams, is also unprecedented. He added that this is a sign of gaming culture's enormous appeal.

Co-organized by the Cologne Exhibition Center (Koelnmesse) and the German Games Industry Association, Gamescom 2026 features gameplay sessions, cosplay shows, a variety of board and car-themed games, an artist zone, campus recruitment, and sales of game-related products across a 233,000-square-meter exhibition area at the Cologne Exhibition Center.

A total of 60 Chinese companies are taking part in Gamescom 2026, a new record high, Grace Pan, senior project manager at Koelnmesse, told Xinhua.

The games showcased by Chinese companies covered a wide range of themes, and many were making their international debuts and ready for gaming enthusiasts to try at the trade show. The cutting-edge technology used in games developed by Chinese companies has attracted widespread attention from the gaming industry and gamers alike.
