TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said on Thursday that more than 30 Australian citizens are reported missing after flash floods hit Nepal. "At this point, there are 34 Australians who are missing," said the prime minister, as quoted by ANTARA.
Meanwhile, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong announced on X that Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade officials are continuing their efforts to determine the whereabouts and ensure the safety of Australian citizens in the disaster area.
China Central Television (CCTV) previously reported that the number of missing individuals following the mudslide disaster near the Gyirong (Jilong) border crossing between China and Nepal had risen to 558.
The report states that three people died and 558 are missing, including 260 foreign nationals. These figures are currently being collected and verified.
A major mudslide occurred on Wednesday morning, August 26, in Nepal, causing a disaster around the Gyirong border crossing in the Tibet Autonomous Region of Shigatse.
