TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Floods inundate several neighborhoods in Semarang city on early Monday, February 16, 2026, as heavy downpours struck the Central Java capital overnight.

The Semarang City Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reported several flooded neighborhoods, which include Argo Residence Housing Complex in Rowosari Village, Grand Batik Semarang in Meteseh Village, Grand Pemata Tembalang in Meteseh Village, Dinar Indah Housing Complex in Meteseh Village, and RW 1 in Rowosari Village.

"Heavy rainfall with moderate to high intensity occurred in the Semarang City area," said the head of the Semarang City BPBD, Endro Pujo Martanto. "The drainage system was unable to accommodate rainwater, which caused the water to overflow into the residential areas."

Around 550 residents evacuated due to the floods that occurred during the late night hours. They were from Dinar Indah Housing Complex, Grand Permata Tembalang, and Rowosari Village.

The floods also submerged the Semarang-Demak northern coastal highways. Floodwaters overflowed from the Babon River after being unable to contain the water discharge.

Traffic flow was disrupted from both directions. Traffic jams worsened because the floods occurred during the morning rush hours in the industrial area. Several two-wheeled vehicles broke down.
