TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - At least 15 people were killed and dozens more were injured in an explosion at a Shia mosque in the capital city of Islamabad, Pakistan, on Friday, February 6, 2026, according to local officials as reported by Al Jazeera.
Rescue teams arrived at the scene after the blast occurred at a mosque in Tarlai Kalan, southeastern Islamabad, during Friday prayers.
At least 15 injured individuals were taken to hospitals, some of whom are in critical condition, said rescue official Mohamed Amir, according to the dpa news agency.
Islamabad police spokesperson Taqi Jawad stated that the cause of the explosion has not been determined, as reported by local media Dawn.
"The site of the blast has been completely sealed," said a district administration spokesperson in Islamabad.
Taqi Jawad, the Islamabad police spokesperson, told Arab News that the blast occurred at an imambargah, a mosque for Shia Muslims.
"More details will be shared in due course," he said.
In November last year, a suicide bomber detonated at the entrance of the Islamabad District Court Complex, killing at least 12 people and injuring dozens more.
