TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese arrived in Jakarta for a working visit to Indonesia on Thursday night, February 5, 2026. Albanese is set to meet with President Prabowo Subianto during his stay.
Albanese landed at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in Jakarta at approximately 18:50 on Thursday. Several members of Prabowo's cabinet, including Foreign Minister Sugiono and Investment and Downstream Minister Rosan Roeslani, were on hand to welcome him upon his arrival at Halim Perdanakusuma.
Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Rod Brazier, Indonesian Ambassador to Australia Siswo Pramono, and Australian Defense Attaché Brigadier Micah Batt were also present to receive the Prime Minister.
As reported by the Presidential Secretariat's social media accounts, following the welcoming procession, Albanese and his entourage proceeded to their hotel in Jakarta. During this working visit, Albanese will be formally received by President Prabowo Subianto at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Friday, February 6, 2026.
The previous day, Rod Brazier noted that Albanese's visit to Indonesia had been long in the making. "The Australian Prime Minister's visit was planned well in advance and is expected to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two nations," Rod said in Jakarta on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, as reported by Antara.
Albanese is scheduled to remain in Indonesia for three days, from February 5 to February 7, 2026. Albanese and Prabowo are expected to sign a bilateral security treaty during the visit.
This trip marks Albanese's second visit to Indonesia since Prabowo assumed the presidency. In May 2025, Albanese chose Jakarta as his first foreign destination, only a day after being re-elected as Australia’s Prime Minister.
Prabowo subsequently reciprocated the gesture by traveling to Australia on November 11, 2025. During that one-day state visit, Albanese and Prabowo held a bilateral meeting.
