TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) will implement a national one-way traffic system on the Trans-Java Toll starting Tuesday, March 24, 2026, to ease congestion during the peak of the 2026 Eid return traffic.
The measure is part of broader traffic management efforts to facilitate smoother travel for motorists returning from the holiday.
“The national one-way traffic will be in effect from KM 414 to KM 70 starting March 24, 2026,” said Commissioner Marupa Sagala, spokesperson for the 2026 Ketupat Operation Public Relations Task Force, in a statement on Monday, March 23.
In addition to the national one-way system, Polri will implement situational traffic measures such as contraflow lanes and local one-way routes as needed to manage unexpected congestion.
Marupa noted that traffic on Monday was generally smooth with normal two-way operations, but the flow of vehicles heading toward Jakarta is gradually increasing.
He advised travelers to plan their journeys carefully and take advantage of the traffic management policies to ensure a more gradual and safe return.
Traffic data from Sunday, March 22, showed that 122,994 vehicles entered Jakarta between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 PM WIB. While this number represented a 3.66 percent decrease from normal daily conditions, it was 3.73 percent higher compared to last year’s Eid return period.
Meanwhile, 168,159 vehicles were recorded leaving Jakarta through the city’s four main toll gates, marking a 65.79 percent increase over normal volumes and a 2.06 percent rise from last year.
The police forecast that this year’s Eid return traffic will peak in two waves: the first on March 24 and the second on March 28–29, 2026. Authorities continue to monitor traffic closely and adjust measures to prevent gridlock along the busy Trans-Java corridor.
