TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Millions of Jeffrey Epstein's files, the late convicted sex offender, released by the U.S. Department of Justice last Friday, revealed that in a 2015 dated email, billionaire Bill Gates communicated with Epstein regarding a "pandemic simulation."
One email with the subject "Preparing For Pandemics" was sent by a person whose name was redacted to Epstein on March 20, 2015.
The email includes the agenda for the pandemic preparedness meeting and a suggestion to involve the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
As quoted from Chosun Biz, the person told Epstein, "As requested, I'm attaching a draft agenda for a pandemic preparedness meeting," and said, "Let's discuss next steps, including how to formally involve the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)."
Russian daily Izvestia reported on Tuesday, "The Epstein files contained discussions between Epstein and Bill Gates on pandemic modeling and biomedical projects," which sparked claims that the undisclosed person in the 2015 email was Bill Gates.
According to the report, this email was first sent to Bill Gates in 2017 by someone and forwarded to Epstein.
The letter discussed concepts for simulating large-scale disease outbreak scenarios, neurotechnology research, and the global spread of infections.
"Such discussions on pandemic scenarios took place years before the emergence of COVID-19."
In October 2019, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, founded by Bill Gates and his former wife, Melinda, sponsored a global pandemic simulation named Event 201, held in conjunction with the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security and the World Economic Forum.
The simulation aimed to test the world's preparedness for a fictional virus outbreak.
However, the Gates Foundation clarified that Event 201 was only a preparedness exercise, not planning or predicting a real pandemic.
Gates' foundation has been contributing to various government projects, especially those related to drugs and vaccines.
For several years, the foundation has funded research by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency on vaccine development.
Epstein, a convicted pedophile who died in a U.S. prison in 2019, also claimed that Bill Gates asked for antibiotics that he could secretly give to his then-wife, Melinda.
In a separate email, Epstein told former UK Ambassador to the U.S., Peter Mandelson, that he was "having a great time" with Gates in Seattle.
About 3 million pages of documents released by the administration of President Donald Trump also contain new photos of Epstein with Gates, who has not commented on the claims.
In a 2021 interview with CNN's Anderson Cooper, Gates referred to his relationship with the disgraced businessman as a "huge mistake."
He also tried to downplay his interactions with Epstein, saying that he dined with Epstein a few times, hoping to get donations for the Gates Foundation.
Gates' connection with Epstein, which began around 2011, after Epstein was convicted of soliciting prostitution from an underage girl, is one of the factors that led his former wife, Melinda French Gates, to file for divorce.
In a typo-filled 2013 email, Epstein wrote that he had decided to resign from his role at the Gates Foundation and BG3, a think tank founded by Gates, because Mr. Epstein's actions had "been in the middle of a very serious marital dispute between Melinda and Bill."
He claimed that he was asked by Gates to participate "in things which ranged from the inappropriate to the immoral to the illegal."
