TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - FBI documents from 2020, based on direct reports from a Confidential Human Source (CHS), stated that Jeffrey Epstein was "close to the former Prime Minister of Israel, Ehud Barak, and trained as a spy under him." These documents were among millions of pages released last week by the U.S. Department of Justice.
The disclosure, reported by Middle East Monitor and Anadolu, adds weight to long-standing allegations that Epstein, a convicted American Jewish child sex trafficker, was gathering secret information on behalf of Mossad.
Dated October 19, 2020, the document details conversations in which the source, who had personal contact with figures in Epstein's circle, outlined how Epstein was involved in intelligence activities coordinated with Mossad.
The government notes recount that an informant, known in government jargon as a Confidential Human Source (CHS), recalled that Epstein's lawyer and Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz told then-U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, Alex Ocasio, "that Epstein belonged to both U.S. and allied intelligence services."
"CHS shared phone calls between Dershowitz and Epstein during which he/she took notes. After these calls, Mossad would then call Dershowitz to debrief. Epstein was close to the former Prime Minister of Israel, Ehud Barak (Barak) and trained as a spy under him," the document stated.
Noting that Barak "believes Netanyahu was a criminal," the report said the informant "became convinced that Epstein was a co-opted Mossad Agent" amid regional rivalries involving Israel.
Dershowitz himself was quoted saying he would have joined Mossad if he were younger. CHS believed that Dershowitz had been "co-opted" by Mossad and "subscribed to their mission."
Overall, the document portrays Epstein as a recruited Mossad agent, a view explicitly reinforced by the source. CHS stated that they were "convinced that Epstein was a Mossad agent" and that his relationship with Barak and handling by Dershowitz served this broader intelligence role.
These statements, supported by contemporary records and phone call observations, now represent some of the clearest direct testimonies placing Epstein in an organized foreign intelligence network, rather than as a lone criminal figure.
The latest set of Epstein-related documents released by the Department of Justice last week mentioned several prominent figures, including Dershowitz and other political and financial elites.
Epstein was found dead in a New York City jail cell in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.
In 2008, he pleaded guilty in a Florida state court and was convicted for procuring minors for prostitution, but critics called the relatively lenient sentence, approved by Acosta, a "sweetheart deal."
His victims, who were recruited as children, allege that Epstein ran an extensive child sex trafficking ring frequented by members of the wealthy and political elite.
