TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - After their 5–3 victory against Japan, the Indonesian futsal team further boosted national pride on an international scale in the FIFA Futsal Rankings. Collecting a total of 1190,97 points, Indonesia secured 24th place globally and became one of the top six teams in Asia.
By far, the progress of the Indonesian futsal team has been nothing short of remarkable. Their victory over Japan signified a major breakthrough, given Japan’s status as one of only two nations to have ever lifted the AFC Futsal Asian Cup. Should Indonesia defeat Iran, its upcoming opponent, the team would end Iran’s long-standing dominance of 13 titles, according to various sources.
Indonesia’s presence in the global top 25 signals the change of the Garuda squad’s status as an elite force on the global futsal stage. Exceeding expectations, this achievement also marks the first time Indonesia has entered the final, which will take place on Saturday, February 8, against Iran.
