TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Garuda Indonesia flight GA604, en route from Jakarta to Makassar, suffered a tire blowout on one of its main gear en route to Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport, South Sulawesi.

"The Boeing 737-800 was carrying 156 passengers. Despite technical difficulties, the aircraft landed safely after performing a go-around or fly-past as part of safety procedures," said Acting General Manager of Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport, Lukman Mardian, in Maros on Thursday, September 3, 2026, as quoted from Antara.

Lukman said the airport received information about the aircraft's condition from the AirNav Indonesia Tower at around 7:00 a.m. WITA (Central Indonesian Time).

Upon receiving this information, airport management immediately alerted personnel and safety equipment, including Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF), F1 and F2 vehicles, Nurse Tenders, and other support vehicles.

Coordination was also carried out with AirNav Indonesia, SAR, the Health Quarantine Center (BBKK), and the Sultan Hasanuddin Air Force Rescue Base to ensure readiness for the aircraft's arrival.

GA604 then performed a go-around or fly-past before landing safely on Runway 03 of Sultan Hasanuddin Airport at 9:13 a.m. WITA.

After the aircraft stopped, officers immediately responded and ensured the safety of all passengers and crew.

The 156 passengers were then transferred from the aircraft to the terminal using four buses. The evacuation process proceeded safely and orderly, with the last passenger departing the aircraft at 9:53 a.m. WITA.

To ensure operational safety, Runway 03-21 of Sultan Hasanuddin Airport was temporarily closed via a Notice of Inspection (NOA) from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. WITA. The closure occurred after the aircraft was moved to the parking stand on the apron for technical maintenance.

The runway technical team then inspected the condition of the runway. After being declared safe, Runway 03-21 was reopened and ready for use at 10:30 a.m. WITA.

Lukman emphasized that personnel readiness and coordination between parties are priorities in handling any situation related to flight safety.
