TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto quoted the Russian proverb, "Odin v pole ne voin," during his speech at the 11th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) held at the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU), Russia. Prabowo attended the economic forum as the principal guest of honor at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"I understand that the Russian people have a saying: "Odin v pole ne voin." There can be no victory if we fight alone," Prabowo said in Vladivostok, Russia, on Thursday, September 3, 2026, as broadcast live on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube account.
For Prabowo, this proverb embodies the same spirit as the Indonesian concept of gotong royong, or mutual cooperation. "In Indonesia, we have a similar saying: gotong royong. Any heavy burden becomes lighter if we carry it together," he said.
Prabowo said that despite Indonesia and Russia having different languages, both carry the "same ancient wisdom from our forefathers."
Prabowo emphasized that this spirit must be implemented in the cooperative relationship between Indonesia and Russia, for the future of both countries. Various collaborations in trade, transportation, payment systems, and industrial projects must bring tangible benefits to the people of both countries.
During the same occasion, Prabowo also invited Russia to work together as an equal and sovereign partner. "Let us work together mutually for the benefit of both our countries. And let us be measured by what our efforts can deliver for our people," he said.
