TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka wants robotics and coding curriculum to reach Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) and special needs schools (SLB). The eldest son of former President Jokowi does not want robotics education to be limited to public schools.
This information was conveyed by Jully Tjindrawan, Chairperson of the Indonesian Intelligent Technology Society (MTCI), after meeting with Gibran at the Vice Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.
"The Vice President is concerned that SLB in Indonesia also have the capacity to teach robotics and coding, so that technology education is inclusive," said Jully in an official statement from the Vice President's Secretariat on Wednesday.
Jully presented several ideas and recommendations to Gibran. One of them was the need for a standardized robotics and coding curriculum that can be implemented nationally. It is hoped that this curriculum can be taught from kindergarten through high school.
In addition, MTCI outlined various robotics and coding training and development programs that have been implemented in several regions. This presentation served as the basis for a discussion with Gibran regarding the importance of building a digital education ecosystem that is structured, sustainable, and adaptive to global technological developments.
According to Jully, Gibran also discussed the idea of establishing an integrated technology development center. "The Vice President encouraged the dissemination of a standard curriculum and opened a discussion space regarding the AI Hub to strengthen the robotics, coding, and AI ecosystem," he said.
Also present at the hearing were MTCI officials, including Ane Prasetyowati, Galvin Limbrawan, Wendy Santoso, and Maika Nurhayati.
