TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Minister of Home Affairs and Chair of the Task Force for Accelerating the Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (PRR) Post-Disaster in Sumatra, Tito Karnavian, has asked local government leaders to quickly provide information about residents whose homes have been severely damaged or who have gone missing due to the disaster in Sumatra.
Tito has given a two-week deadline. If the limit is exceeded, Tito will close the data collection used to establish permanent housing.
"If within two weeks the data is not provided, I will leave. The residents will not receive help because the regents and mayors did not provide the data. I will announce this to the public," Tito said during the inauguration of 1,300 temporary houses in North Sumatra as monitored on the BNPB YouTube channel on Thursday, February 5, 2026.
The latest data shows that there are a total of 35,208 lightly damaged houses, 17,350 moderately damaged houses, 24,443 heavily damaged houses, 1,750 missing houses, and 5,832 uncategorized houses. "In total, there are 88,930 houses," he said.
The government provides assistance of Rp15 million for houses with light damage, Rp30 million for houses with moderate damage, and up to Rp60 million for houses with severe damage.
For the heavily damaged houses, the government will provide permanent housing. While waiting, they can receive a Temporary Housing Allowance of Rp600,000 per month, which can be withdrawn immediately for three months, amounting to Rp1.8 million.
Tito explained that residents who have suffered severe damage can choose between two schemes for constructing permanent housing. The first program enables individuals to request that the National Agency for Disaster Management (BNPB) rebuild their homes in their original locations.
The second program offers residents of the complex the opportunity to relocate to an area less prone to disasters. The construction of permanent housing is coordinated by Maruarar Sirait, the Minister of Public Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP).
However, Tito stated that the government has been slow in providing this data. Tito also recommended that regional governments form a special team for data collection.
This former police chief mentioned that a total of 52 regencies and cities were affected by the Sumatra disaster. About 18 regencies and cities were affected in Aceh, 18 in North Sumatra, and 16 in West Sumatra.
Over the past two months, the central and regional governments have taken various rehabilitation measures, such as repairing damaged roads and houses. As a result of these efforts, he claimed that 11 regencies and cities in Aceh have returned to normal, 1 is approaching normal, and 6 require special attention. These six areas are Pidie Jaya, Aceh Tamiang, North Aceh, Central Aceh, East Aceh, and Biereun.
In North Sumatra, 9 regencies and cities have returned to normal, 7 are approaching normal, and 2 still require special attention. The two regions that require special attention are North Tananuli and Central Tapanuli.
Meanwhile, 7 regencies and cities have returned to normal in West Sumatra. Seven regencies and cities are approaching normal conditions, while two others still require special attention. These two regencies requiring special attention are Padang Pariaman and Agam.
