TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Futsal Team made history by advancing to the final of the 2026 Asian Futsal Cup after defeating Japan in a dramatic match settled in extra time at the Indonesia Arena, Jakarta, on Thursday night, February 5, 2026.
The hosts finally emerged with a 5-3 victory after normal time ended in a 3-3 draw. Indonesia took the lead twice, only to be equalized on both occasions, before securing the win with two goals in extra time.
The five goals for the Garuda squad were scored by Samuel Eko (12'), Ardiansyah Nur (22'), Firman Adriansyah (39'), Reza Gunawan (45'), and Dewa Rizki (48'). Japan replied through Takehiro Motoishi (30') and a brace by Kazuya Shimizu (35', 40').
This result propels Indonesia, coached by Hector Souto, to the final, where they will face the Iran National Futsal Team on Saturday, February 7, 2026.
From the start of the match, as reported by Skor.id, both teams immediately displayed high intensity. Japan pressed first through Motoishi and Shoto Yamanaka, forcing Indonesian goalkeeper Ahmad Habiebie into early action. Indonesia responded through Firman Adriansyah and Yogi Saputra before finally breaking the deadlock in the 12th minute. Samuel Eko capitalized on a chaotic situation in front of the goal following a corner to put Garuda ahead.
The Blue Samurai continued to apply pressure. Kazuya Shimizu hit the post, while several other chances were denied by Habiebie. Indonesia remained dangerous in transition, notably through Reza Gunawan. The score remained 1-0 until halftime.
Entering the second half, Japan increased the tempo. However, Indonesia extended their lead through Ardiansyah Nur in the 22nd minute after a deflected shot changed direction off an opposing player. The two-goal cushion did not last long. Motoishi reduced the deficit in the 30th minute during a goalmouth scramble, and Shimizu equalized in the 35th minute following a quick combination play.
Indonesia reclaimed the lead through a counter-attack finished by Firman Adriansyah in the 39th minute. Japan then implemented a power play. The five-against-four pressure resulted in a penalty after a video review indicated a handball. Shimizu successfully converted the penalty in the 40th minute, forcing a 3-3 draw at the end of regulation.
In the extra period, Indonesia appeared aggressive from the outset. Their persistent efforts finally paid off in the 45th minute when Reza Gunawan exploited a gap in the Japanese defense. The Blue Samurai again resorted to a power play, but a turnover led to a goal by Dewa Rizki in the 48th minute. Japan was awarded a penalty a minute later but failed to convert. Indonesia spent the remaining time maintaining a disciplined defense to secure the historic victory.
