TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto revealed that the government plans to implement a Work From Anywhere (WFA) policy ahead of Eid al-Fitr 2026. This WFA initiative is scheduled to take effect on March 16, 17, 25, and 27, 2026.
"We will also introduce Work From Anywhere so that the scattered days [of office] approaching Eid can be filled with work from anywhere," Airlangga said during the 2026 Annual Meeting of the Financial Services Industry at Bidakara Hotel, Jakarta, on Thursday, February 5, 2026.
Additionally, the government will provide a stimulus in the form of subsidized transportation fares.
Airlangga stated that discounts of 30 percent will be offered for train and ship tickets, while airplane tickets will see a reduction of 17-18 percent. He expressed hope that these incentives would encourage public mobility.
According to him, increased mobility will drive public consumption, which is expected to provide a boost to the economy. "Indonesia is indeed an anomaly; during holidays with high mobility, spending surges and the economy gains momentum," he noted.
The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that the accommodation and food service sector grew by 7.15 percent year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2025. Meanwhile, throughout the entirety of 2025, the sector’s growth rate reached 7.41 percent, contributing 0.24 percent to the gross domestic product (GDP).
BPS further reported that Indonesia's economy expanded by 5.39 percent in the fourth quarter of 2025 and 5.11 percent overall for the year 2025.
