TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Head of the Legal Information Center of Indonesia's Attorney General's Office, Anang Supriatna, stated that the investigation report of alleged genocide and human rights crimes committed by Israel against Palestine has been received by his office. The coalition of civil society submitted this report on February 5, 2026.

"The Directorate of Human Rights Violations has received it," said Anang at the AGO building in South Jakarta on Thursday, February 12, 2026.

Anang stated that the AGO will soon follow up on the report by conducting a review. They will also coordinate with related work units and the Indonesian government to determine the next steps.

"Especially because this involves cross-jurisdiction, it must be studied in accordance with applicable legal norms. There is also a new Criminal Code or KUHP, which we will learn about later," he said.

Furthermore, according to him, to process this report, the AGO cannot rely solely on legal studies, but also on the political will of the government. Given that this case involves international relations and international law, the legal decisions to be made cannot be separated from Indonesia's foreign policy stance.

"We'll see what the study results will be like, depending on its political will," he said.

The civil society coalition previously visited the AGO to report Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, along with the entire Israeli government and military structure, for alleged genocide and human rights crimes. They asked the attorney general to investigate and follow up on the report.

Human rights activist Fatia Maulidiyanti explained that Article 598 and Article 599 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, as well as the provisions of Article 5 and Article 6 of the Criminal Code, open the door for the application of extraterritorial jurisdiction and universal jurisdiction for serious international crimes, including genocide. According to Fatia, the perpetrators of genocide can be investigated using universal jurisdiction.

Those present at the AGO that day included constitutional law lecturer Feri Amsari, musician The Brandals Eka Annash, and Wanda Hamidah. The report was directly submitted to the Director of Serious Human Rights Violations at the Attorney General's Office, Dedie Tri Haryadi, and the Head of the Legal Information Center of the Attorney General's Office, Anang Supriatna.

Feri Amsari stated that universal jurisdiction can be applied because Indonesia has been affected. "Indonesian hospitals were bombed there, and Indonesian citizens have also been victims there, detained and shot by them. So, for us, this already meets all the requirements for its application," he said.

Feri hopes that with Indonesia's position as the President of the UN Human Rights Council, the government will be more assertive in thoroughly investigating the genocide committed by Israel. Furthermore, Indonesia was appointed President of the UN Human Rights Council on January 8, 2026.

"As the President of the UN Human Rights Council, it means that Indonesia also has a significant responsibility. One of them is related to the settlement of serious human rights violations, the biggest conflict in the world, namely Palestine and Israel."
