TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Aceh Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration stated that 340 Rohingya immigrants stranded in various locations in Aceh Province are still being accommodated in several locations.
"Currently, 340 Rohingya immigrants are being accommodated in several evacuation centers in Aceh Province," said Tato Juliadin Hidayawan, Head of the Aceh Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration, in Banda Aceh on Monday.
Hidayawan stated that there are three evacuation centers for the Rohingya immigrants: Mina Raya, Padang Tiji District, Pidie Regency, North Aceh Regency, and Seuneubok Rawang, East Aceh Regency.
Of the 340 Rohingya refugees, he said, 185 are in the Seuneubok Rawang shelter or evacuation center. 82 are in Mina Raya, and 73 are in North Aceh Regency.
"The Rohingya immigrants' status is as refugees from abroad. As refugees from abroad, they are stateless," said Tato Juliadin Hidayawan.
Regarding the handling of refugees from abroad, Tato Juliadin Hidayawan stated that the Aceh Immigration Office registers and monitors Rohingya immigrants. Security is provided by the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri).
He explained that handling their logistical needs is based on Presidential Regulation 125 of 2016 concerning the handling of refugees from abroad.
This presidential regulation provides assistance to the central government through regional governments and international organizations, specifically the UNHCR and the IOM.
"They cannot be returned to their country of origin because they are not recognized as citizens by the Myanmar government. UNHCR may facilitate their resettlement in a third country willing to accept them," said Tato Juliadin Hidayawan.
Waves of Rohingya ethnic immigrant landings occurred repeatedly in Aceh throughout 2023 to 2025. The landing points in Aceh were in Pidie Regency, Aceh Besar Regency, East Aceh Regency, Bireuen Regency, North Aceh Regency, South Aceh Regency, and Sabang City.
