TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian U-17 national team has once again suffered a defeat against China in the second international friendly match at the Indomilk Arena, Tangerang, on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. The Young Garuda squad lost narrowly 2-3 after conceding during injury time.
Two of Indonesia's goals were scored from set-piece situations. Chico Jericho's free-kick in the 21st minute evened the score, while Miraj Sulaeman's penalty in the 47th minute again leveled the score at 2-2. Meanwhile, China's three goals were scored by Zhao Songyuan (9'), He Sifan (36'), and Zhang Bolin (90+4').
This result came after a crushing 0-7 defeat last week, during the first friendly match with China. But the team showed improvements compared to the previous game, resulting in a more balanced fight.
As quoted from Skor.id, China was immediately on the offense from the early minutes and took the lead in the ninth minute. Zhao Songyuan took advantage of Indonesia's defensive lapse to beat goalkeeper Noah Duvert from close range. Indonesia responded and equalized through Chico Jericho's free-kick that deceived goalkeeper Jiang Chengen.
Approaching halftime, Indonesia's defensive focus wavered once more. He Sifan scored in the 36th minute after capitalizing on a loose ball in front of the goal.
Entering the second half, Indonesia appeared more aggressive. Two minutes after kick-off, Mierza Firjatullah was fouled in the penalty box and leveled the score at 2-2.
Indonesia briefly dominated the game and created several chances, including through Mierza and captain Putu Ekayana. However, similar to the first half of the game, faltering concentration at crucial moments led to disaster.
China's counterattack in the 90+4th minute was scored by Zhang Bolin. His shot was initially parried by Noah Duvert, but the ball rebounded and entered the goal.
The two friendly matches against China serve as important evaluation material for the coaching staff ahead of the AFF U-17 Cup 2026 in April and the AFC U-17 Asia Cup 2026 in May. Kurniawan Dwi Yulianto, who will replace Nova Arianto as the head coach, is expected to have noted several aspects that required improvements.
