TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian national futsal team will face Japan in the semifinals of the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup on Thursday, February 5, 2026. The Indonesia vs. Japan match will take place at the Indonesia Arena in Jakarta, starting at 7:00 PM WIB (Western Indonesian Time).
This match is expected to be a real test for the Garuda squad, which is enjoying its best performance in the Asian Futsal Cup. Reaching the semifinals marks Indonesia's highest achievement since the tournament began in 1999, or since its first participation in the 2002 edition.
Previously, the Garuda's best achievement was reaching the quarterfinals in the 2022 edition in Kuwait.
This historic achievement is believed to be a boost of confidence when facing Japan, especially with the full support of the fans at the Indonesia Arena.
However, Indonesian coach Hector Souto remains wary of Japan's superior strength, and has emphasized that he is not satisfied with just reaching the semifinals. "Regarding tomorrow's match, it will be a tough one. We're facing one of the top teams who has won this tournament. Japan has won it four times," said Souto, as quoted by Skor.id, Wednesday, February 4, 2026.
"This is truly a tough match, and we have to find opportunities to beat them. I won't be satisfied until we win," added the Spanish coach.
Meanwhile, Japanese coach Kensuke Takahashi, who coached Indonesia from 2018 to 2021, expressed his enthusiasm for this semifinal match. "I'm happy to be playing against Indonesia in Jakarta. I feel like throughout my futsal career, I've always had good experiences with Indonesia and Indonesian futsal," said Takahashi.
"We will play with all our might. I think the current level of the Indonesian Futsal National Team is very good, with solid tactics and a well-organized game," he added.
