TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Minister of Home Affairs and Chair of the Task Force for the Acceleration of Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction in Sumatra, Tito Karnavian, inaugurated the construction of 1,300 temporary housing units in eight regencies and cities affected by floods and landslides in Sumatra. The inauguration was centered in North Sumatra on Thursday, February 5, 2026.
"I represent President Prabowo Subianto in inaugurating temporary settlements in eight disaster-affected regencies and cities," said Tito as observed from the BNPB's YouTube channel on Thursday, February 5, 2026.
Tito explained that 1,300 temporary housing units were built in South Tapanuli Regency with 250 units, North Tapanuli with 40 units, and Central Tapanuli with 112 units in North Sumatra. In Aceh, a total of 58 units in Aceh Tamiang, 308 units in East Aceh, 84 units in North Aceh, and 410 units in Pidie Jaya were built. Furthermore, 38 units were built in Tanah Datar in West Sumatra.
The former National Police Chief said that a total of 52 regencies and cities were affected by the Sumatra disaster, including 18 regencies and cities in Aceh, 18 in North Sumatra, and 16 in West Sumatra.
Over two months of work, the central and regional governments have taken various rehabilitation measures such as repairing damaged roads and houses. As a result of these efforts, he claimed that 11 regencies and cities in Aceh have returned to normal, one is approaching normal, and six require special attention. The six affected regions are Pidie Jaya, Aceh Tamiang, North Aceh, Central Aceh, East Aceh, and Biereun.
In North Sumatra, nine regencies and cities have returned to normal, seven are approaching normal conditions, and two still require special attention. The two regencies and cities that require special attention are North Tapanuli and Central Tapanuli.

The latest disaster data shows that there are 35,208 lightly damaged houses, 17,350 moderately damaged houses, 24,443 heavily damaged houses, 1,750 houses that have disappeared, and 5,832 houses that have not been categorized. "A total of 88,930 houses," he said.
The government provides assistance of Rp15 million for residents with lightly damaged houses, Rp30 million for moderately damaged houses, and up to Rp60 million for heavily damaged houses, complete with permanent housing.
