TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesia’s Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia has assured the public that subsidized fuel prices will not increase despite continued volatility in global oil prices.
Bahlil said subsidized fuel prices would not be adjusted based on movements in Indonesia Crude Price (ICP), the country’s benchmark for crude oil prices. Changes in ICP would instead affect non-subsidized fuel prices, he said.
“Amid continued uncertainty in oil prices, we remain committed, following the President’s directive, to keeping subsidized fuel prices unchanged,” Bahlil said after a meeting at the Finance Ministry in Jakarta on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.
Non-subsidized fuel prices, meanwhile, will continue to reflect global oil market developments. Bahlil said the government and state-owned energy company Pertamina would adjust non-subsidized fuel prices in response to changes in international oil prices.
“If global prices fall, non-subsidized fuel prices can also be adjusted downward. If they rise, prices will be adjusted upward,” Bahlil said.
Indonesia Crude Price Falls
The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry previously set Indonesia’s ICP for July 2026 at US$81.68 per barrel, down US$1.77 from US$83.45 per barrel in June.
Laode Sulaeman, the ministry’s director general of oil and gas, said the decline reflected easing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and a gradual recovery in global oil supplies.
“The July 2026 ICP of US$81.68 per barrel reflects adjustments in the global crude oil market following easing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and the gradual recovery of global oil supplies,” Laode said in a statement on Tuesday.
Despite the decline in ICP, Bahlil’s latest statement means subsidized fuel prices will remain unchanged, while consumers of non-subsidized fuels remain exposed to fluctuations in global oil prices.
