TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesia's state railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), or KAI, is offering a 17 percent discount on economy-class train tickets and an Rp8 fare for Jabodebek LRT and Commuter Line servicesto mark Indonesia's 81st Independence Day.
KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin said the promotions were designed to give more people the opportunity to travel by train while celebrating Independence Day.
“On Independence Day, KAI wants more people to enjoy train travel and celebrate togetherness as a nation,” Bobby said in a written statement on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.
The 17 percent discount on economy-class train tickets will be available for bookings from August 14 to 17, between 12:01 a.m. and midnight Jakarta time. For departures specifically on August 17, tickets can be booked throughout the day.
Tickets can be purchased through the Access by KAI app and other official sales channels.
Meanwhile, the special Rp8 fare will apply to Jabodebek LRT and Commuter Line services on August 17. The promotional fare will be available for 24 hours.
KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba said the promotions were intended to encourage greater use of public transportation while making travel more affordable.
“KAI wants to bring that spirit into our customers’ journeys through more affordable fares,” Anne said.
