TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian national team will play their final match in the third round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers in the Asian zone against Japan. The match is scheduled to take place at Suita City Stadium, Osaka, on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, kick-off at 17:35 WIB (Western Indonesian Time), and can be watched live on RCTI or streaming on Vision+.
Team captain Jay Idzes emphasized that the Garuda squad is focused on facing Japan, even though they have already secured a spot in the fourth round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in the Asian zone. He is optimistic looking forward to this match, despite the opponent being the Blue Samurai team, who have already secured their place in the final round of the 2026 World Cup.
Idzes expressed this after meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at his residence in Kertanegara, Jakarta, on Friday, June 6, 2025, a day after the victory against China. "Yes, definitely (optimistic). Starting today, we will focus on the match against Japan," he said, as quoted from Antara.
Indonesia's national team won 1-0 against China in the ninth match of the third round at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Senayan, on Thursday, June 5. The lone goal for the Garuda squad was scored by Ole Romeny from a penalty kick at the end of the first half.
This result ensured Indonesia's qualification for the playoff, as they guaranteed a finish in the top four, regardless of the result of the away match against Japan on the upcoming Tuesday. This assurance came after Bahrain lost 0-2 to Saudi Arabia in their ninth match.
Bahrain and China, who have only accumulated six points, are in fifth and sixth place in Group C and have been confirmed eliminated. They will not be able to catch up with the points accumulated by Indonesia with one match remaining.
Idzes admitted that they have encountered no obstacles in the preparation for the match against Japan. "Obstacles? None. Of course, we know that tomorrow is the match against Japan. We will focus on preparing for the final match because this is also an important match," said the player often addressed as Bang Jay.
After accepting President Prabowo's invitation, Indonesian national team coach Patrick Kluivert revealed Prabowo's message. "(The President said) Good luck, enjoy the match, and play with heart for this country, and that is what we also want," said Kluivert, as quoted from Antara.
The Dutch coach ensured that Japan's superiority would not diminish the Garuda's spirit because Jay Idzes and his team will also display their full abilities during the away match. "They have shown their abilities. They are at the top of the group and are a good team. However, we will certainly also demonstrate the abilities that we have," said Kluivert.
The former Barcelona star and Dutch national team player assures that he has prepared a game plan to face Japan. "But of course, I cannot disclose it now. The most important thing is that the players know what they need to do," he said.
