TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian soldiers who are set to be deployed to Gaza, Palestine, will undergo intensive training for the next few months. It was reported earlier that about 8,000 involved in Indonesia's peacekeeping and humanitarian forces are expected to be ready to depart by June 2026.

Head of the Public Relations and Information Bureau of the Ministry of Defense, Brigadier General Rico Ricardo Sirait, said that in the coming months, soldiers would receive intensive language courses, "especially in English and Arabic," he told Tempo on Monday, February 16, 2026.

Rico said the soldiers joining the International Stabilization Force (ISF) would undergo various pre-deployment training. These include a series of briefings, simulations, and intensive training that military personnel are required to receive before being deployed to mission areas, especially United Nations peacekeeping missions.

The training includes military tactics, land navigation, UN standard operating procedures, emergency situation handling, communication, negotiation, and understanding of local culture.

"As well as other pre-deployment trainings adjusted to the mission's mandate and needs," Rico added.

TNI deployment to Gaza is part of Indonesia's decision to join the ISF forces, a US-backed troop adopted under United Nations Resolution 2803 on November 17, 2025.

State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi previously stated that the Indonesian troops joining the peacekeeping forces from various countries are seeking to defuse conflict escalation.

"At least, we hope this will bring down the conflict escalation in Gaza to alleviate the suffering of our brothers and sisters," Prasetyo said at Gambir Station, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.
