TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Polri), Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo, admits that the police have been slow in responding to citizen reports. He acknowledges that citizens tend to report more to the fire department rather than the police.

Dedi made this statement during a hearing with the House of Commission III (DPR). He highlighted the slow response of the police's public service unit, the Integrated Police Service Center, in handling public complaints.

"The quick response time standard set by the United Nations is below 10 minutes, but we are still above 10 minutes. This is something we need to improve," said Dedi during the meeting at the DPR building in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.

He claimed that the Polri is continuously improving its public service. Dedi says that the police are improving digital public services through the 110 hotline. "Currently, citizens find it easier to report everything to the fire department because of its quick response, and with the optimization of 110, we hope that every citizen's complaint can be responded to in under 10 minutes," said Dedi.

Apart from the speed of the police response, Dedi acknowledged the numerous complaints citizens have made about police officers' extravagant lifestyles and arrogance. He mentioned that the Polri has now issued a guideline book to regulate members' behavior.

"We have created a book of dos and don'ts as a guideline for police officers. Furthermore, there has been an improvement in internal monitoring, a concern of the public. Why does arrogance occur? Why do we see deviant behaviors and abuse of power? Our monitoring has been insufficient," Dedi stated.
