TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto's decision to join the Board of Peace created a new burden for the state treasury. Under Chapter II of the charter of the organization established by United States President Donald Trump, each country is granted a three-year membership term. This limitation does not apply to countries willing to contribute more than US$1 billion around Rp16.8 trillion at an exchange rate of Rp 16,800 per US dollar.
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said there had been no discussion yet about the contribution. But he indicated that if the President requested it, the payment would be drawn from the State Budget (APBN). "I think most of it will come from the APBN," he said at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.
If Indonesia decides to pay the contribution, the government's list of expenditures will grow longer. In the 2026 State Budget, the government planned spending of Rp3,842.7 trillion (US$228.7 billion), a sharp increase from the previous year's plan of Rp3,621.3 trillion (US$215.5 billion). By year's end, however, only Rp3,451.4 trillion (US$205.4 billion) had been realized.
Most of this year's budget is allocated to central government spending. Ministries and agencies are set to receive Rp1,510.5 trillion (US$90 billion), while the State General Treasurer (BA BUN) is allocated Rp1,639.1 trillion (US$97.5 billion). By contrast, transfers to regional governments continue to shrink—from Rp919.9 trillion (US$54.7 billion) in 2025, cut to Rp848.5 trillion (US$50.5 billion) in the current year, and falling further to Rp692.9 trillion (US$41.2 billion) in 2026.
