TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Iran insisted that negotiations with the United States will only proceed if Tehran expresses its willingness and if Washington completely drops its intention to act against the Iranian people.
Spokesperson of Iran’s Khatam Al-Anbiya military headquarters, Ebrahim Zolfaghari, said on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, that negotiations will happen only if Iran chooses and if any intention to act against the Iranian people is completely eliminated, according to Tasnim news agency, cited Antara.
"Until it is our will, nothing will return to normal... Our first and last word was, is, and will be this: people like us will never negotiate with the likes of you," he added.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, The New York Times reported, citing anonymous officials, that amid the growing impact on the U.S. economy, Washington presented Tehran with a 15-point plan to resolve the conflict in the Middle East.
On February 28, the U.S. and Israel began to attack several targets in Iran, including in Tehran, resulting in damage and casualties among civilians.
Iran then launched a retaliatory strike on Israel's territory and U.S. military targets in the Middle East.
Initially, the U.S. and Israel claimed that the "preemptive strike" was necessary to counter the threat posed by Iran's nuclear program. However, they later stated that their goal was to overthrow the Iranian government.
