TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, expressed appreciation for the support from the Indonesian government and its people. The statement was delivered via a video uploaded to the Iranian Embassy's official Instagram account, @iraninindonesia, on Wednesday, March 18.
According to Boroujerdi, support came from various sectors, including organizations and individuals. He received numerous messages, letters, and direct visits to the embassy as expressions of empathy.
"I have received many messages from various parties, thousands of letters, and individuals coming directly to the embassy to express condolences for the martyrdom of our leader, to congratulate the appointment of our new leader, and to condemn the attacks by the United States and Israel," he said.
Escalating Conflict and Civilian Toll
In the same statement, Boroujerdi described a national situation fraught with tension due to military strikes. He mentioned that attacks by the United States and Israel since late February targeted several civilian objects.
"Since February 28, my country has been under brutal attack; civilian homes are bombed every hour," he said. He further explained that the strikes have hit a wide array of facilities, including schools, maritime vessels, infrastructure, and cultural and historical sites.
Consequently, civilian casualties rise, and the environment is affected. Boroujerdi emphasized that there are no signs of the conflict ending soon. "There will be no ceasefire or negotiations until we receive ironclad assurances that we will not be attacked again," he said.
As reported by Anadolu, joint attacks by Israel and the United States that began on February 28 caused more than 1,200 fatalities, including the then Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and over 10,000 injuries. This follows a previous escalation last June, which occurred even as the United States and Iran were engaged in Oman-mediated negotiations.
Official Donation Channel
The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Jakarta has established an official mechanism for Indonesians wishing to provide humanitarian assistance. Boroujerdi urged that all contributions be channeled exclusively through these verified accounts.
"Please do not donate arbitrarily; use only the embassy's official accounts," he cautioned. He added that the collected funds will be dedicated to supporting recovery efforts in the areas of Iran most devastated by the conflict.
