TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) arrived in Singapore today, November 18, 2025. Jokowi's agenda in the city-state is to participate in the prestigious international event, the Bloomberg New Economy Forum 2025, scheduled to run from November 19 to 21, 2025.
Jokowi's aide, Syarif Muhammad Fitriansyah, confirmed the arrival on Tuesday. "Bapak Joko Widodo has arrived in Singapore to attend the Bloomberg New Economy Forum," Syarif relayed via a WhatsApp message to journalists in Solo today.
According to Syarif, Jokowi is representing Indonesia in the forum, which operates under the theme, "Thriving in an Age of Extremes."
The New Economy Forum gathers a community of 500 influential leaders from the public and private sectors who are committed to building a sustainable and inclusive future. The forum’s agenda includes plenary programs, group discussion sessions, and networking opportunities centered on its core theme.
Jokowi to Speak, Reinforcing Global Economic Dialogue
Jokowi was appointed as a Global Advisory Board member for the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in April 2025, a role that strengthens Indonesia's presence in key global economic dialogues. Jokowi will remain in Singapore until Friday, November 21, 2025, and is scheduled to deliver a major address at the gathering.
"He has been given the opportunity to deliver a speech on Friday," Syarif stated.
Jokowi previously emphasized the necessity of economic intelligence when discussing the forum. "Here, the future economic challenges will indeed be discussed. Perhaps new economic ideas for the future will be discussed," Jokowi remarked when met at his residence in Sumber, Banjarsari, Solo, on September 26, 2025.
Jokowi asserted that economic intelligence holds considerable importance. He suggested that these processes would be utilized for implementing rapid economic decisions.
"Things like AI, 5G are very crucial in the future economy. Because everything, economic data will be very important in real-time," he concluded.
