TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - TWICE member Tzuyu is reportedly preparing to part ways with JYP Entertainment after more than a decade with the agency, according to South Korean media reports. Despite the reported departure, the Taiwanese singer is expected to remain active as a member of the K-pop girl group.
According to CNA, South Korean outlet News1 reported on Tuesday, July 14, that the 27-year-old artist, whose full name is Chou Tzu-yu, is set to leave JYP Entertainment, the agency that has managed her career since before TWICE debuted in 2015.
The report added that Tzuyu would continue participating in TWICE's group activities alongside fellow members Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, and Chaeyoung.
JYP Entertainment, however, has not confirmed the report.
Responding to inquiries from South Korean media, the agency said only that TWICE is currently in the process of discussing contract renewals.
As reported by Soompi, a JYP representative stated, “TWICE is currently in the period of discussing contract renewals, and we will inform you as soon as matters are finalized.”
The agency did not directly address reports claiming that Tzuyu had already decided to leave.
TWICE debuted in October 2015 with the single Like Ooh-Ahh and has since become one of K-pop's most successful girl groups. The group is scheduled to celebrate its 11th anniversary later this year.
The reported contract discussions come shortly after TWICE wrapped up its sixth world tour, 'THIS IS FOR,' with a three-night finale at Seoul's KSPO Dome, marking another milestone in the group's global career.
Outside of group promotions, Tzuyu recently drew attention after performing a cover of Singaporean singer Stefanie Sun's hit song 'First Day' at a music festival in Taiwan.
Neither Tzuyu nor JYP Entertainment has announced any final decision regarding her contract, and the agency said further details will be released once negotiations are completed.
