TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Olivia Dean secured her first-ever Grammy Award on Sunday night, February 1, taking home the trophy for Best New Artist. The win marked her succession of last year’s recipient, Chappell Roan, who also returned to the stage this year to present the award.
Stepping onto the stage wrapped in a sparkling high-low dress, Dean delivered a short yet deeply emotional acceptance speech. Fighting back tears, she said, "I never really imagined that I would be up here, let alone nominated. So thank you so much. I just want to say that an artist is really nothing without their team. Emily, my best friend, my manager, we've been doing this for 10 years." She went on to acknowledge her support system, adding, "So this is for you, too, my family."
However, it was Olivia Dean’s reflection on her roots that drew the loudest applause from the audience, according to People. “I guess I want to say I’m up here as a granddaughter of an immigrant,” she said. “I wouldn’t be here—I’m a product of bravery, and I think those people deserve to be celebrated. We’re nothing without each other. Thank you so much.”
Olivia Dean rose to global fame with hits like “Man I Need” and “Nice to Each Other,” songs that showcase the British singer’s signature soulfulness. Her latest 12-track album, The Art of Loving, received similar acclaim, debuting at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 and later peaking at No. 4.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the Best New Artist category is widely regarded as one of the most competitive Grammy nominations, selected by approximately 15,000 voting members of the Recording Academy. In the 2026 Grammy Awards, Olivia Dean was nominated alongside fellow rising acts, including The Marías, Addison Rae, KATSEYE, Leon Thomas, Alex Warren, Lola Young, and Sombr.
