TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) operation region (Daop) 6 Yogyakarta responded to reports that a train derailed during an earthquake centered in Pacitan, East Java, early Friday, February 6, 2026.

Information circulating on social media suggested a derailment occurred at the Timoho crossing gate, where a green cargo car was seen stopped. However, the footage merely showed a train following emergency procedures.

"No trains derailed, only an emergency stop due to the earthquake," said Feni Novida Saragih, Public Relations Manager of Operations Office 6. She explained that when an earthquake occurs, all trains must stop immediately for infrastructure inspections.

The quake, felt at 1:06 a.m., impacted 14 journeys in Yogyakarta, including the Sancaka and Gajayana services. These trains experienced delays of 29 to 49 minutes while field teams inspected tracks and bridges. "The safety of journeys cannot be compromised," Feni added.

Operations resumed at 2:04 a.m. after the network was declared safe. KAI Daop 6 apologized for the inconvenience while reaffirming its commitment to passenger safety.

The impact extended to KAI Daop 9 Jember. Manager of Legal Affairs and Public Relations, Cahyo Widiantoro, stated that the Railway Control Center immediately coordinated with field units.

As a preventative measure, services such as the Mutiara Timur and Blambangan Ekspres were temporarily suspended at Klakah Station.

Officers conducted comprehensive inspections of rail tracks and supporting infrastructure to mitigate risks. The field inspection was completed at 2:15 a.m., with all services in the Jember area subsequently declared safe and operational.
