TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto stated that members of TNI (Indonesian Military) and Polri (Indonesian National Police) need a good salary. According to the Head of State, a decent salary for the military and police can prevent them from extorting the people.
Prabowo's statement regarding this salary is not only intended for TNI and Polri. He mentioned that various other professions, such as educators and healthcare workers, also need a decent salary.
"Teachers need a good salary, doctors, nurses need a good salary, and soldiers and police need a good salary so that they do not extort from the people," said Prabowo during his speech at the peak event commemorating National Cooperative Day, in the Senayan area, Jakarta, on Sunday, July 12, 2026.
He added, "Civil servants need a good salary so that they do not engage in corruption."
During the event, Prabowo warned corruptors to stop the practice of stealing public money. The Chair of the Gerindra Party asked corrupt individuals to be self-aware. "For the umpteenth time, I have spoken since long ago. Hey, corruptors, be self-aware. Stop your practices, stop," he said.
Prabowo emphasized that the people of Indonesia are not foolish, although they are forgiving. "Return the wealth of the people, return it properly. We are a forgiving nation, but the people need justice, the people need prosperity," said Prabowo.
