Prabowo Says International Trade Talks Must Always Benefit Indonesia

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that every economic policy adopted by the government must be oriented towards tangible outcomes that benefit the whole nation. 

"President Prabowo wants every decision taken to result in swift and concrete benefits for Indonesia," Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya explained in a post on the Cabinet Secretariat's official Instagram account on Sunday, February 15, 2026.

Prabowo Subianto summoned a number of economic ministers from the Red and White Cabinet to his private residence in Hambalang, Bogor, West Java, on Sunday afternoon, February 15, 2026. 

As seen in the Instagram post, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, Minister of Investment and Downstream Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, and State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi were present, sitting at a round table. 

Prabowo highlighted the direction and principles the government should adhere to in trade talks with foreign parties, said Teddy. Prabowo underscored the importance of aligning each step of economic diplomacy with national interests. 

"Ensuring Indonesia's stance in every economic negotiation with any party, especially the upcoming talks with the United States, is in our best interest and most beneficial for Indonesia," said Teddy.

According to Teddy, Prabowo also stressed that economic negotiations must present direct impacts on the national economic structure. In this regard, Teddy said that improving domestic industrial productivity and strengthening the global supply chain are top priorities.

"The President [Prabowo] wants negotiations to raise domestic industrial productivity and strengthen the global supply chain," wrote Teddy on his Instagram account on Sunday, February 15, 2026.

Today, Monday, February 16, 2026, Prabowo Subianto began a visit to the United States (US) on Monday, February 16, 2026. According to an official statement from the Presidential Secretariat Office, Prabowo and a limited entourage departed for Washington, D.C., from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in East Jakarta.

During this working visit, the Head of State was accompanied by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. Prabowo is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump.

The meeting is planned to discuss strengthening relations between Indonesia and the United States and strategic cooperation in various fields. "This visit is part of Indonesia's active diplomatic efforts to strengthen its national position amidst global geopolitical dynamics," the Presidential Secretariat Office stated on Monday, February 16, 2026.
