TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A group of prominent Indonesian public figures has urged President Prabowo Subianto to establish an independent joint fact-finding team to investigate the acid attack on Andrie Yunus, deputy coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS).
They called for the investigation to be conducted transparently and in consultation with civil society.
“We urge the Indonesian government, through the president, to immediately form an Independent Joint Fact-Finding Team, established in consultation with civil society,” KontraS Coordinator Dimas Bagus Arya said at a press conference in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.
Those backing the call include former Attorney General Marzuki Darusman, senior lawyer Todung Mulya Lubis, former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chair Erry Riyana Hardjapamekas, and Alissa Wahid, national coordinator of the GUSDURian Network, among others.
Together with representatives of civil society groups, they delivered an open statement at a press conference organized by Amnesty International Indonesia.
They also urged the government to arrest the perpetrators, identify those who ordered the attack, and bring all parties involved to justice. In addition, they called on the state to ensure that Andrie and his family receive the best possible medical treatment.
“We, as representatives of the Indonesian people from Aceh to Papua, are openly demanding that the Indonesian government fully uncover the acid attack against human rights defender Andrie Yunus,” said Usman Hamid, executive director of Amnesty International Indonesia.
The public figures said the government must ensure that the investigation into the attack is transparent, impartial, and accountable.
Several hours later, the Indonesian Military Police Center (Puspom TNI) announced that it had detained four soldiers suspected of involvement in the corrosive liquid attack on Andrie. According to Puspom, the four have been held at the Jakarta Military Police Command (Pomdam Jaya) since Wednesday morning, March 18, 2026.
The detained personnel were identified by the initials NDP, SL, BWH, and ES. They are members of the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS) from the air force and navy branches.
Around the same time, police also disclosed the identities of two suspected attackers, though the names differed from the initials announced by the military.
According to Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya), two men identified by the initials BHC and MAK were the attackers who carried out the assault on Andrie. Their photos were shown during a press conference at Polda Metro Jaya headquarters in South Jakarta on Wednesday, March 18. The two were seen riding a motorcycle together without face coverings and were captured on CCTV footage.
Earlier, Andrie Yunus was attacked with a corrosive liquid by two unidentified assailants on Thursday night, March 12, 2026, at around 11:37 PM local time on Salemba I-Talang Street in Central Jakarta.
He was taken to the emergency unit of Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo National General Hospital (RSCM) in the early hours of Friday, March 13. Andrie suffered burns to his face, neck, chest, back, and both arms, as well as impaired vision in his right eye. He sustained burns covering more than 20 percent of his body.
