TEMPO.COJakarta - Governor of Bank Indonesia Perry Warjiyo stated that Indonesia's digital payment system is becoming increasingly integrated on a global scale. The Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) is currently operational in Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, and Japan.

In the near future, QRIS will connect to China and South Korea, with integration processes also underway for Saudi Arabia and India.

"It will be live in China soon, as well as in South Korea; we are also connecting QRIS to Saudi Arabia and India," Perry said during the Indonesia Digital Innovation Center initiation event at the Bank Indonesia office in Central Jakarta on Monday, February 23, 2026.

In addition to the expansion of cross-border QRIS, Perry highlighted the ongoing development of domestic payment systems. He explained that previously, Indonesia lacked fast fund transfer services like BI FAST and relied instead on a clearing system with limited settlement windows a few times per day.

He further explained that the National Payment Gateway was formerly fragmented across several switching systems that served specific groups and had not yet offered an integrated fast payment system nationwide. According to him, the fast payment concept enables transactions to occur 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at a minimal cost.

Perry noted that the value of fast payment system transactions has now reached Rp1.8 quadrillion. He also mentioned that standardization is being implemented through the National Standard Open API (SNAP) to unify various interbank systems into a single national standard.

Currently, more than 30 to 35 banks in Indonesia offer digital services, including both mobile and internet banking, that are fully integrated with QRIS, BI FAST, SNAP, and other digital platforms.
