TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Seattle Seahawks have defeated the New England Patriots 29-13 to win the franchise's second-ever Vince Lombardi trophy.
The American football game was a slow burner, with 30 points coming in the fourth quarter, as the teams' defenses—especially Seattle's—dominated proceedings.
With the Seahawks leading 12-0 entering the final frame after four field goals from Jason Myers, veteran quarterback Sam Darnold threw a pass to AJ Barner for the game's first touchdown.
New England reduced the deficit when Drake Maye passed to Mack Hollins for a TD, before Seahawks linebacker Uchenna Nwosu intercepted Maye and ran the ball into the endzone for a "pick-6" to make the score 29-7.
The Patriots added a consolation touchdown, but it was too little, too late, as the Seahawks ran out deserved winners.
Bad Bunny Performed Historic Halftime Show
Halftime during Super Bowls is considerably longer than the 15-minute break teams would normally get, as the stage needs to be set up on the field for the highly anticipated halftime show.
After Kendrick Lamar fired up the stage with SZA last year at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, this year, Puerto Rican mega-star Bad Bunny took center stage.
Bad Bunny opened his lively, deeply cultural performance with a fan favorite, "Tití Me Preguntó," which translates as "Auntie Asked Me."
Bad Bunny also paid tribute to Puerto Rican reggaeton history with the opening notes of Daddy Yankee's "Gasolina."
He was joined by Lady Gaga, who performed a salsa version of her and Bruno Mars' "Die With A Smile."
Another surprise guest was Ricky Martin, a fellow Puerto Rican musical icon, who performed "Lo Que Le Pasó a Hawaii" ("What Happened to Hawaii").
Bad Bunny ended his highly anticipated performance in front of a screen with a poignant message: "The only thing stronger than hate is love."
Trump Slams 'Terrible' Bad Bunny Halftime Show
Members of the MAGA movement had decried Bad Bunny's halftime performance since it was announced last year. The Super Bowl has traditionally been seen as a unifying cultural event in the US, but some had planned to boycott it over the announcement.
US President Trump seemed to share the sentiment. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the Super Bowl halftime show, headlined by Puerto Rican star Bad Bunny who performed the set in Spanish and paid tribute to Puerto Rican culture and heritage, was "absolutely terrible" and "one of the worst ever."
"It makes no sense, is an affront to the Greatness of America, and doesn’t represent our standards of Success, Creativity, or Excellence," Trump said.
"Nobody understands a word this guy is saying, and the dancing is disgusting, especially for young children that are watching from throughout the U.S.A., and all over the World. This 'Show' is just a 'slap in the face' to our Country," the Republican president said.
