TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The legal team representing Andrie Yunus criticized the transfer of their client's acid attack case from the Jakarta Metropolitan Police to the Indonesian National Police Military Center. Muhammad Isnur, a representative of the Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD), stated that the police's decision to transfer the case to the TNI was unfounded.
"Is there any law that justifies the transfer from the police to the military? There isn't," said Isnur at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
According to Isnur, police investigators should have transferred the case files to the prosecutor's office. "Later, the prosecutor will determine whether this case has any connection or not," said Isnur.
Isnur expressed disappointment over the police's quick decision to transfer the case files to the TNI. He highlighted that the case had been under police investigation from the beginning, long before the military became involved.
Another legal team member, Fadhil Alfathan, stated that, according to the Criminal Procedure Code, the police should be the primary investigators in a legal case. "Now the question is, who will be the primary investigator, the Puspom investigator or the police investigator," Fadhil added.
The Director of General Crime Investigation at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, confirmed the transfer of Andrie Yunus' case files. "After finding facts from the investigation results, we reported in a meeting that we have transferred this case to the TNI Military Police," said Iman in a meeting with the Indonesian House of Representatives Commission on Law today.
Iman did not further explain when the case files were transferred. However, prior to this, an invitation for the ceremony to transfer the case files from the Jakarta Metropolitan Police to the TNI had circulated among journalists. The agenda was scheduled for March 19, 2026, but was canceled, and its continuation was unclear.
When asked for more details about the reason behind the transfer, Iman declined to provide further explanation. "Thank you," Iman said after the meeting.
A day earlier, Iman had responded to a clarification invitation from the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) in Central Jakarta. In that meeting, Komnas HAM requested an explanation from the police regarding the legal handling of the acid attack case against Andrie.
Komnas HAM Commissioner, Saurlin P. Siagian, stated that the police had handed over several pieces of evidence to the TNI. However, Saurlin emphasized that the police would continue the investigation. "The Jakarta Metro Police is continuing the investigation, not halting the process," Saurlin told reporters on Monday, March 30, 2026, at the Komnas HAM office in Central Jakarta.
