TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Military Police Center of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) has detained four soldiers suspected of being responsible for the acid attack on Andrie Yunus, the Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (Kontras). The four alleged perpetrators have been held at the Military Police of the Jakarta Regional Military Command (Pomdam Jaya) since Wednesday morning, March 18, 2026.
"This morning, I received individuals who are suspected of being involved in the assault on Andrie Yunus," said TNI Military Police Commander Major General Yusri Nuryanto during a press conference at TNI Headquarters in Jakarta on Wednesday afternoon, March 18, 2026.
Yusri revealed that the four detained individuals are identified by the initials NDP, SL, BWH, and ES. These four individuals are members of the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS), hailing from the Army and the Navy.
However, Yusri stated that the four have not yet been formally declared as suspects. The TNI still needs to investigate the evidence, the motive behind the acid attack, and various other factors to confirm the involvement of these four individuals in the assault on Andrie Yunus. "So, we are still investigating," he added.
Andrie Yunus was attacked with acid while traveling on Salemba I-Talang Street in Central Jakarta on Thursday night, March 12, 2026. He was sprayed with a hazardous solution by two unidentified individuals riding a motorcycle from the opposite direction.
The corrosive chemical liquid struck Andrie's right side, including his eyes, face, chest, and hands. Some of his clothing also melted due to the acid. Medical examinations revealed that Andrie suffered serious burns covering 24 percent of his body. Andrie is currently receiving treatment at Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo National General Hospital (RSCM).
