TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The 2026-27 Premier League summer transfer window featured massive spending, with major clubs sweetening their deals by offering enormous weekly wages to secure top talent.

According to a recent report by Planet Football, top-tier clubs like Manchester City and Chelsea not only shattered their transfer records this summer but also committed to hefty salary packages.

Midfielder Elliot Anderson saw one of the most drastic salary increases of the window. His transfer to Manchester City bumped his weekly pay from reportedly £40,000 at Nottingham Forest to £250,000. The move briefly made him the most expensive English player in history.

However, Chelsea's acquisition of Morgan Rogers quickly surpassed that transfer record just weeks later. Despite carrying a higher transfer fee, Rogers earns a slightly lower wage than Anderson. Financial tracker Capology estimates Rogers' salary at £150,000 per week, while SalaryLeaks places it closer to £175,000.

Anderson shares the top spot among new earners with Arsenal midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, who also commands a £250,000 weekly wage. Liverpool defender Ronald Araujo follows close behind at £205,000 per week.

Depending on the tracking source, Tonali could actually be the highest earner of the group. While Capology lists the new Tottenham midfielder at £200,000 per week, SalaryLeaks estimates his total package at £275,000. The reality is that performance-based bonuses structured into Tonali's contract could push his actual earnings well beyond the baseline figure.

Tottenham Hotspur represented a significant portion of the list after an active window. Beyond Tonali and Fernandes, Spurs added defenders Andy Robertson at £160,000 weekly and Marcos Senesi at £150,000 per week. Analyzing the strategy, Planet Football observed that securing players on free transfers "often leads to more funding being put towards a bigger salary for the players."

The top tier of earners is completed by Chelsea additions Maxence Lacroix and Marco Palestra, as well as Aston Villa midfielder Joao Gomes, who each earn £150,000 per week. SalaryLeaks estimates Palestra's base figure slightly lower at £120,000 per week.
