TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The national teams of England and Spain have been drawn into the same group for the 2026-2027 UEFA Nations League, following the draw held in Brussels, Belgium, in the early hours of Friday, February 13, 2026. The two sides will compete in Group A3 alongside Croatia and the Czech Republic.
Based on the draw, the competition in League A is expected to be fierce. In Group A1, France, Italy, Belgium, and Turkey will face off. Group A2 will bring together Germany, the Netherlands, Serbia, and Greece. Meanwhile, defending champion Portugal has been placed in Group A4 alongside Denmark, Norway, and Wales.
The clash between Portugal and Norway has the potential to pit two superstars against each other: Cristiano Ronaldo and Erling Haaland, iconic figures of different generations in European football.
A total of 16 teams were placed in four pots before being divided into four groups across League A through League D. During the group stage, each team will play six matches on a home-and-away basis.
The top two teams from each group in League A will advance to the quarter-finals, scheduled for March 2027. The winners of these home-and-away ties will qualify for the final round in June 2027. Meanwhile, the teams ranked fourth in League A and League B will automatically be relegated to the lower league.
The group stage of the 2026-2027 Nations League is scheduled to take place from September 24 to November 17, 2026. The quarter-finals and the play-offs for promotion and relegation between League A/B and B/C will be played from March 25–30, 2027. The final round will be held from June 9–13, 2027.

The participation of certain teams in League C and League D remains pending the results of the 2024-2025 League C/D play-offs, scheduled for March. The competition format continues to feature a promotion and relegation system between leagues. The four group winners from League B and C, as well as the two group winners from League D, will automatically be promoted. Third-placed teams and runners-up in select leagues will face play-offs to determine their promotion or retention.
With a group composition that brings together several European powerhouses from the opening stages, the fifth edition of the Nations League is predicted to offer intense competition well before the knockout phase begins.
