TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has paid its final respects to Corporal Rico Pramudia, who passed away following a month of treatment for injuries sustained during an Israeli attack on March 29, 2026.
The memorial service was held by UNIFIL in Beirut on Sunday, April 26, led by the Head of Mission and UNIFIL Force Commander, Major General Diodato Abagnara.
"You gave everything you had for peace in this land. And for this, you have all our respect," said Major General Abagnara, as stated in a written statement monitored in Jakarta on Monday.
According to Abagnara, Corporal Rico performed his duties under the UN banner in the noble mission of bringing peace to southern Lebanon.
"As soldiers, as peacekeepers, we carry your mission forward; we will remain steady; we will remain united; we will remain vigilant," said the UNIFIL Commander.
The ceremony in Beirut was also attended by the Indonesian Ambassador to Lebanon, Dicky Komar; representatives of the Lebanese Ministry of Defense and the Lebanese Army, Brigadier General Maroun Azzi; and Colonel Allan Surya Lesmana, representing the Garuda Contingent at UNIFIL.
UNIFIL emphasized that attacks on peacekeepers constitute a serious violation of international humanitarian law and UN Security Council Resolution 1701 (2006), and may constitute war crimes.
Attacks on UNIFIL personnel must be thoroughly investigated, and all those responsible must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, UNIFIL stated.
Corporal Rico died on Friday, April 24, after being treated for nearly a month for injuries sustained during an artillery attack in Adchit Al-Qusayr on March 29, with initial findings indicating the projectile was fired from an Israeli Merkava tank.
Corporal Rico is survived by his wife and child; his peacekeeping mission in Lebanon, which began in early April, was his first mission abroad.
With the passing of Corporal Rico, Indonesia has lost four Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) soldiers serving with UNIFIL in southern Lebanon within the past month.
Corporal Farizal Rhomadhon died in the same March 29 incident that initially injured Corporal Rico. Subsequently, on March 30, Major Zulmi Aditya Iskandar and First Sergeant Muhammad Nur Ikhwan were killed when the troop convoy they were escorting came under attack.
In addition to Indonesia, France also lost two soldiers serving with UNIFIL after their patrol was attacked on April 18, amid rising tensions in southern Lebanon.
